  • Acquisitions of Spectrum Plastics and Donatelle strengthen DuPont's healthcare portfolio.
  • DD targets productivity gains of 3% of cost of goods sold and raised its 2026 EBITDA and earnings outlook.

DuPont de Nemours, Inc. (DD - Free Report) benefits from its innovation-driven investment, productivity actions and the acquisitions of the Spectrum Plastics Group and Donatelle Plastics amid uneven construction demand and persistent cost pressure.

DuPont, which is among the prominent players in the chemical space along with Dow Inc. (DOW - Free Report) , Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APD - Free Report) and Eastman Chemical Company (EMN - Free Report) , remains focused on organic growth through innovation, commercial execution and targeted acquisitions. Its innovation-driven investment is focused on several high-growth areas. DD's portfolio is exposed to healthcare, water, aerospace and electric vehicle (EV) applications, which supported 4% organic sales growth in second-quarter 2026. The company is expanding its innovation pipeline through direct lithium extraction solutions in Water, Liveo products for biopharma and new solutions for electric vehicles and battery energy storage.

The acquisition of Spectrum Plastics Group, a leading manufacturer of specialty medical devices and components, strengthened DuPont’s position in stable and fast-growing healthcare end markets. It is also in sync with its focus on high-growth, customer-driven innovation for the healthcare market. The buyout of Donatelle Plastics also enhances DD’s exposure in healthcare, expanding its expertise in the medical device market segments.

DD said in August 2026 that it still had more than $1 billion available for potential mergers and acquisitions and was evaluating opportunities in water and healthcare. It also indicated that prospective acquisitions should add to the company’s growth algorithm and meet disciplined return thresholds. These actions support a more focused portfolio while retaining flexibility for selective growth investments and shareholder returns.

DuPont is also benefiting from cost synergy savings and productivity improvement actions. Its operating system is producing measurable cost and execution gains. In second-quarter 2026, net productivity improved and contributed to operating leverage. Management is targeting net productivity equal to 3% of cost of goods sold and expects to reach that run rate within about 18 months from August 2026. The 80/20 program is also moving from pilot work to implementation across four Diversified Industrials businesses, with a few million dollars of EBITDA benefit expected in second-half 2026.

Following its second-quarter outperformance, DuPont raised the midpoint of its full-year 2026 operating EBITDA and adjusted earnings guidance. The company now expects net sales in the range of $7.16-$7.19 billion, operating EBITDA between $1.75 billion and $1.77 billion and adjusted earnings of $7.17-$7.32 per share.

Another prominent chemical maker, Dow expects approximately $200 million in additional benefits from Transform to Outperform during 2026. This raises the company’s expected total in-year benefits from self-help initiatives to more than $1.3 billion. For the second half of 2026, DOW plans to focus on growth and innovation in attractive end markets, investments to strengthen the portfolio and balanced capital allocation. DOW expects the growth and productivity benefits from Transform to Outperform to accelerate through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.

Air Products, on its fiscal third quarter call, raised its fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings guidance to $13.39-$13.49 per share from the prior range of $13.00-$13.25. For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, APD expects adjusted earnings of $3.55-$3.65 per share.

Eastman Chemical, on its second-quarter call, said that it expects 2026 earnings to improve significantly from 2025. EMN remains on track to deliver cost reductions of $125 million to $150 million, net of inflation, and continues to project capital expenditures of approximately $400 million. Operating cash flow is now expected to approach $900 million, modestly below the prior expectation of approaching the 2025 level.
